By providing documentary evidence of the impact global warming has had on glaciers, Nicolaj Pennestri’s photographs inevitably confront us with the harsh truth that the melting of glaciers and icebergs in the Arctic is not a potential future threat, but a worrisome present fact. Rather than looking like the simulacrum of something that will no longer exist in the future, these photos are a manifesto for the present and future safeguard of ice.
